Ian Zettervall is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor with over four years’ experience in both out-patient and long-term residential treatment. Ian views individuals with Substance Abuse Disorders not as broken people who need to be fixed; but rather as individual’s utilizing strategies that no longer work to his or her benefit. The therapeutic relationship is one in which a person can begin to explore, identify, and “try-on” new strategies in a safe environment with compassion, empathy, and with complete positive regard for every person’s ability to heal, grow, and live full and meaningful lives. Ian primary counseling technique utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Existential Therapy, and mindfulness practices. Ian views the primary purpose in counseling as the use of specific and proven methods that increase one’s psychological flexibility in a way that enable them to better meet the vicissitudes of life without losing touch with their sense of meaning, purpose, and value. This is accomplished through clarification and commitment to values-oriented actions that inevitably lead one to a more fulfilling and deeply meaningful lives.
